Microsoft Teams adds local time to users’ profile cards

Microsoft is going to update the profile card in Teams to make it a little more useful. Indeed, the company is working on a new feature that will allow users to find out colleagues’ local time by looking at their profile cards.

For those unfamiliar, the profile card in Microsoft Teams is a contact card that appears when you click on someone’s photo or name. Currently, users can initiate a chat, phone call, or email conversation and check the availability status of their colleagues. However, this release also adds the local time to the user’s profile card, making it easy for remote teams to collaborate across time zones. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap , the local time feature will roll out to Teams desktop and web users in January 2022.

Overall, this is a good step to make Microsoft Teams profile cards a bit more informative, as it’s a bit difficult to manage time zone differences at the moment. As a reminder, Skype displayed users’ local time next to the contact’s name, but this capability was removed in 2017 due to “privacy concerns.”
