Updating Windows and Office through the Microsoft 365 administration center
- IT administrators who manage organizations can finally relax and breathe a well-deserved sigh of relief.
- Microsoft came up with a better way to keep your Windows and Office software up-to-date.
- Everything can be done through the Microsoft 365 Amin Center, but only for some versions.
If you are an IT administrator who manages software updates for your organization, you will be interested to know that Microsoft has released a new software updates page in the Microsoft 365 management center.
You should know that this dashboard should give you a high-level overview of the update status and status of your Windows and Office software in a unified view.
Manage your updates better and a lot easier
For those of you keeping an eye on the subject, you will surely recall that this feature was initially touted for release in April 2022.
This much-needed software update dashboard provides administrators with many metrics, including information on how many devices have installed the latest security updates for Microsoft 365 apps.
You will also get an overview of security problems, the number of machines with unsupported versions of Windows, and details about PCs with Windows versions reaching the end of service.
At the time of writing, the software updates webpage only includes details about Microsoft 365 apps and Windows.
That said, Microsoft will expand it to include on-premises Exchange Servers later this year. Exchange Server 2019 will also receive a similar experience early next year.
Another important aspect to consider is that the dashboard with software updates is currently in preview, so expect some rough edges here and there.
Redmond officials also stated that the aforementioned dashboard is fed by diagnostic data with best efforts, so counts can be off and there can also be latency in updates.
