The Reading Progress app for Microsoft Teams is here

Teachers and students both have something to gain from reading progress, and it’s free.

What you need to know

  • The global rollout of the Reading Progress app has begun.
  • The app is free and designed to help teachers and students.
  • It is localized in over 100 languages.

Microsoft Teams’ new Reading Progress app begins its global rollout, which would take approximately two weeks in total to reach everywhere it was intended. The app is free and localized in over 100 languages. It’s built into Teams Assignments and works on any platform that supports Teams.

Here’s a quick rundown of what you can accomplish in Reading Progress, courtesy of Microsoft:

  • Students can record themselves reading to audio and/or video.
  • This allows students to read at their own pace and in a comfortable environment, without the stigma, stress or distraction associated with reading aloud.
  • The app has streamlined a typically time-consuming process by integrating seamlessly with Teams’ Education Insights dashboard. Once submitted, teachers can rate the recorded assignment and provide feedback at their leisure.
  • Teachers can use the auto-detect feature to quickly assess errors such as mispronunciations, repetitions, phrasing, intonation, and omissions, and can use it to customize instruction for each student.
