Switch accounts in Microsoft 365 web apps without signing out

If you have multiple Microsoft accounts for work and personal use cases and you also use Microsoft 365 apps like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Outlook and more on the web, then your online life is about to get a lot easier , thanks to Microsoft.

Until now, it was only possible to sign in to one Microsoft account in a browser at once. If you want to use a different account instead, you must first sign out of your current account and then sign in to the other account. It’s an archaic user experience that feels more like a chore if you use multiple personal and business accounts in the same browser instance.

Of course, there are workarounds where you can create separate profiles in a browser, use different browsers to separate your workflows, or just not be able to do personal things on a work machine, and vice versa.

However, sometimes this need is unavoidable and until now Microsoft forced you to sign out of one account in order to sign in to another account. This will change soon, as seen in a feature ID 70801 entry on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap . It actually says:

Users can sign in to multiple business and personal accounts on Microsoft 365 web apps in the same browser. This also allows them to seamlessly switch between the accounts without having to log out and log back in.

Well, there you have it folks, Microsoft has finally seen the flaw of its ways. The company will facilitate you in using multiple Microsoft 365 accounts without making the process a headache.

The feature was added to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap yesterday and its target general availability release date is April 2022.
