Support for Teams Breakout Rooms specific presenters
Microsoft is adding the ability for organizers to extend Breakout Rooms management to specific presenters. This feature allows meeting organizers to add and remove presenters as Breakout Room managers.
By taking control from the Breakout room management panel, appointed presenters can perform the Breakout room activities as a manager or meeting organizer, and join Rooms as a Breakout room manager.
This is only being rolled out on desktop.
This post is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 81118
When this will happen:
The rollout will start in mid-September and should be completed by the end of September.
How does this affect your organization:
Organizers who configure and manage Breakout Rooms on a Teams desktop client have access to appoint presenters as Breakout Room managers. Currently, only users named presenters from the same tenant are supported to become breakout room administrators.
When breakout room managers join the meeting, they see the Breakout room icon in the toolbar.
Breakout room managers must take control to manage rooms. (Only one manager can manage rooms at a time).
Once under control, Breakout room managers can perform operations to manage Breakout rooms, such as:
- assign users to rooms
- add/remove rooms
- open/close rooms
- reassign users to rooms
- send announcements
- recreate rooms
- set timer
- customize other breakout room settings
When rooms are started, all Breakout Room Managers (including those who are not in control) can join opened Breakout Rooms by clicking on the
next to each room and select Join room.
