Microsoft Teams users will soon be able to chat with users of a personal account

At Ignite 2021, Microsoft announced several new capabilities and improvements for Microsoft Teams. One of the most interesting is that Microsoft Teams business users will soon be able to chat with personal account users.

Microsoft says they will expand collaboration support by allowing Teams users to chat with team members outside their work network with a personal Teams account. Company accounts can invite any Teams user to chat using an email address or phone number and stay within the security and compliance policies of their organization’s boundaries.

Notable personal users cannot start chatting with business users.

Microsoft is, of course, pushing Teams for personal use in Windows 11, and we can imagine more Windows users suddenly seeing a chat invite pop up in their taskbar.

This feature will be available at the end of 2021.
