Microsoft Teams update ensures you never miss a crucial piece of information

Teams will be more accessible, but you won’t have to change the way you work.

An upcoming update gives Microsoft Teams a welcome accessibility boost by adjusting the way video transcription works with recorded meetings.

An entry added to the company’s Microsoft 365 roadmap outlines how: “Transcription is enabled along with Recording if the ‘Automatic Recording’ option is enabled.”

What this means for end users and administrators is that when a meeting organizer enables ‘Automatic Recording’, voice transcription is enabled by default (as long as it is allowed by administrators).

Microsoft hopes this change will help make meeting recordings more accessible, while not requiring additional input or setup from organizers.

Initially, this feature seems to be coming to desktop versions of the Microsoft Teams app – an environment that most business users go to. That’s not to say that web and mobile versions may not get similar features in the future.

In an effort to make its platform as accessible as possible, Microsoft is pushing the update quickly through the development process and general availability will be in late August 2022.

Updates to Microsoft Teams

Since the pandemic, competition among videoconferencing suites has heated up as they all fight for first place. As such, all new features were quickly copied and replicated by all major players.

For exmaple, Microsoft Teams seems to have imitated one of Zoom’s party pieces, which allows video calling platforms to record and send short video clips to colleagues, which can be handy when someone is away but you don’t want them to miss an important company announcement.

Among numerous other new features that have recently arrived or will arrive in the future, Microsoft has also expressed its commitment to apple’s M-series Mac users, with more support for the devices powered by the company’s silicon chips.
