Microsoft Teams search functionality is enhanced with Top Hits

Since last year, when many people were forced to work from home, Microsoft has been working hard on improving its chat and collaboration app Teams. In addition to many improvements and new features, there is one improvement set to make users’ lives much easier.

A new entry in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap has now been published regarding the search functionality of Microsoft Teams. According to the submission, the search experience on Teams will be enhanced by “Top Hits” results generated automatically.

Microsoft stated that the new section will automatically suggest the most relevant results for people, chats, files, and other content stored or shared in the app.

The new feature is still in development, but is expected to be rolled out to users by the end of this month.

Microsoft has gone to great lengths to bring new features to the Teams platform since the start of the pandemic. It has brought video conferencing, file sharing, project management and other functions together in Teams, further expanding its range of functionalities.

This extension does require better search functionality. Currently, the search autosuggestion offers a number of possible results by type, and users can apply filters to it for a more specific search. However, the Top Hits section is expected to add a new intelligence layer to the existing search options. This makes it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for on the first try, reducing your search time and increasing your productivity.
