Microsoft Teams apps will soon be supported in Outlook
You’re always in Teams, even in Outlook.
What you need to know
- Microsoft Teams continues to expand its territory.
- Soon, Teams apps will be able to run in Outlook, meaning you can participate in the Teams experience even in Outlook.
- The feature is expected to be generally available in December 2022, although that’s an estimated delivery date, not a guarantee.
You can run, but you can’t hide: Microsoft Teams is going to find a way to inject itself into every Microsoft app in time, it’s just a matter of ‘when’. And in the case of Outlook, the “when” is (possibly) sometime in December 2022.
As can be seen from the Microsoft 365 roadmap, where all good Microsoft service and product updates can be found with the right filters, feature ID 88909 exists . The feature is titled “Outlook: Add and use apps in Outlook.” Here’s how Microsoft describes it: “Apps built for Teams can now run in Outlook as well. Outlook users can purchase and use these updated Teams apps (with personal tabs and/or search-based message extensions) without using Outlook. leave.”
It’s slated for a December 2022 general availability release, although that’s more of a preliminary estimate from Microsoft, so don’t hold your breath. Especially if it’s a date as far away as this one, meaning the delivery schedule could change drastically once the team behind the feature realize that what’s cooking takes more time in the oven.
