Microsoft Launches Windows 365 Boot and Windows 365 Switch
Microsoft takes a step forward in optimizing organizational use of Windows 11 Cloud PCs by announcing the general availability of Windows 365 Boot and Windows 365 Switch, scheduled for launch on Sept. 26. These features, part of the latest update for Windows 11 version 22H2, aim to improve the user experience by seamlessly integrating the cloud with the familiar PC environment.
Windows 365 Cloud PC Development
In July 2021, Microsoft introduced Windows 365 Cloud PC, a virtual version of the operating system available in the cloud. A month later, in August, Cloud PC moved forward with the launch of Windows 365, bringing the Windows platform to Microsoft cloud via Azure. The latest updates further enhance the Windows cloud PC experience.
Windows 365 Boot: Streamlining Access to Cloud PC
Windows 365 Boot provides employees with a direct login method to their Windows 365 Cloud PC, making it the primary Windows experience on their device. At startup, the system directs users immediately to their Windows 11 login page and then directly to their Cloud PC, with no additional steps. This is particularly useful for shared devices, where shift or part-time workers can access their personal and secure Cloud PC via a unique ID.
Windows 365 Switch: Ease Transition Between Cloud PC and Local Desktop
Another notable feature, Windows 365 Switch, allows users to effortlessly switch between a Windows 365 Cloud PC and a local desktop via familiar keyboard commands, mouse clicks or swipes. This feature is integrated into Windows 11 via the Task View function, which is especially beneficial for bring-your-own-PC (BYOPC) programs.
Benefits and Integration
Microsoft rolled out Windows 365 Switch in preview last month. Microsoft argues that Windows 365 Switch brings several benefits to users and organizations. These include faster and more secure access to their Cloud PC, smooth integration with the local Windows 11 installation and access to files, settings and apps in both environments.
