Microsoft announces multimedia redirection for Windows 365
Multimedia content now works more smoothly in supported browsers
- Microsoft’s new multimedia redirection (MMR) allows users to experience smoother video playback.
- It is available on both Edge and Google Chrome browsers.
- More than 30 popular entertainment, sports and news websites are supported.
As of Thursday, Feb. 9, Microsoft’s Multimedia Redirection (MMR) technology is available to all Windows 365 users and is supported on both Google Chrome and Edge browsers for Windows.
The new functionality lets you play videos more fluidly while viewing them in the browser. It is available only for the Windows Desktop client (version 1.2.3916 or higher) on Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise devices.
Previously, multimedia content was displayed in azure virtual desktop and then in the remote client. With this new functionality, the process is cut in half because the element is instead redirected to the local machine with greater efficiency.
Which website works with multimedia redirection (MMR)?
MMR works with more than 30 Web sites that support video playback, including major entertainment, sports, health and news sites.
