Various new features for Teams Rooms

Microsoft announced several new features and improvements to the Teams Rooms experience last week. A new content layout called front row is the highlight among the new announcements. The new front-row layout moves the video gallery to the bottom of the screen so that participants in the room can see colleagues remotely face-to-face across a horizontal plane. And the content of the meeting is surrounded by calendar, tasks, and notes, which can be updated in real time. The meeting chat is also displayed. This layout is supported for one- and two-screen configurations.

Other new features coming to Teams Rooms:

  • With new team rooms video layouts, Microsoft will maximize screen space by splitting the video gallery across all available screens when content isn’t shared.
  • With the ability to pin or highlightmultiple video streams, you can keep a clear picture of the selected videos when you are in a room.
  • Remote participants can promote their presence in space by participating in the meeting, which doesn’t always require saying something.
  • Live comments– now visible in a Teams Room – allow you to share sentiments.
  • When using the classic video grid layout, chat bubbles alert attendees in the room for the conversation that takes place next to the meeting.
  • New Teams Rooms on Surface Hubexperience is coming.
  • With a new meeting phase, a robust set of meeting controls, and popular features, including scenes in Together mode, background noise suppression, chat calling, and live responses, Teams Rooms on Surface Hub enriches collaboration for the hybrid workspace. You can easily access your Microsoft 365 files and confidently present with features like PowerPoint Live in Teams, so you can see slides, notes, and your audience all in one view.
