The Microsoft Teams desktop app gets a feature for suppressing background noise in real time.

As previously announced, Microsoft is now implementing the real-time background noise suppression feature for Microsoft Teams desktop users. When your microphone is turned on during a Teams meeting or conversation, background noise such as shuffling papers, slamming doors, barking dogs, and so on is suppressed using AI.

AI-based real-time noise reduction is added to Microsoft Teams. This feature automatically removes unwanted background noise during your meetings. AI-based noise reduction works by analyzing a person’s audio feed and using specially trained deep neural networks to filter out the noise and hold only the voice signal. This is an update of the existing noise reduction. Users now have control over how much noise reduction they want. The “High” setting is new and will suppress more background noise.

Google recently announced the same feature, which can be seen in the video below:

Here’s how to enable this feature:

  • Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner of Teams, and then select Settings.
  • Select Devices on the left, and then select an option under Noise Reduction.
