5 of the latest Microsoft Teams features available starting today.

With increased pressure on Microsoft Teams due to increasing demand during this Coronavirus pandemic, the need to further update the technology in the form of new and improved features should be a priority for many of these providers. No need to panic, as Microsoft has taken this by publishing another 5 new features for its online video and collaboration platform, Microsoft Teams.

Ability to set background effects policies for users.

For those who are tenant administrators, you’ll soon find that you can assign a user-level policy that lets you control how users interact with background effects in Teams meetings. To give you an example of some of the options available, these include: don’t offer filters, only background blur, and the ability for users to choose their own custom images.

Ability to access meeting options during a Teams meeting.

You’ll see that Microsoft simplifies the process for meeting organizers to quickly adjust their presenter and meeting room settings after a meeting has started by providing a link from the attendees window. This new functionality is now available for both scheduled and “Meet Now” meetings.

New and improved user experience for starting a meeting participation.

You’ll see that every time a user starts a Teams meeting via a link, you’ll see that there are much clearer instructions on how that user can join the meeting. At this stage, you’ll see that you can join the meeting online, download the Teams client, or join with the native Teams client. This new feature is already being rolled out and all users are expected to use it within weeks.

Better policies for sharing screens in chats.

As most of you probably already know, screen sharing from chats allows you to present your screen to the other participants in the chat, whether it’s 1 to 1 or in a group chat. You will see that this access point was previously dictated by the AllowPrivateCalling policy. However, if you turn this off, you’ll notice that users can’t share their screens from the chat module. This has now changed because the option to start sharing a screen from the chat is now dictated by the ScreenSharingMode policy.

Ability to download a participant report in a Teams meeting.

This is a great new feature, because meeting organizers can know who came to their Teams meetings. You can find out by downloading a participant report that you can see in roster view, as well as the entry and departure times for participants. It is important to note that this feature is only present during the meeting while the meeting is still going on.
