Printing in SMEs: convenient, but how secure is it really?

📠 We encounter it often with SME clients:

  • Confidential info stays on the printer

  • Someone accidentally prints a quote from another customer

  • Or worse: an old form ends up in the wrong hands

Since the advent of the AVG, printing is no longer “just printing.” Yet in many SMBs it still goes wrong. How then?

❌ Paper forms lying around the office
❌ Anyone can print without logging in
❌ Printed documents lie in general folders without security

Print security = more than a PIN

Secure printing isn’t just smart for the AVG. It also helps give you direction:

🔐 ISO 27001 (information security):
Printing without security = risk of data breach

📋 ISO 9001 (quality management):
Insecure document processing harms process quality

Do you recognize any of these situations?

📊 We did a poll on LinkedIn¹. The results say it all:

  • 22%: “No idea, is on by default”

  • 11%: “Everything gets printed, including private”

  • 56%: “We already have something from security”

  • 11%: “We want to get this right”

And that’s exactly where the challenge lies. Because even if you’ve already arranged something like secure printing (such as logging in with a pass), the question remains:

🔍 What happens to scanned documents?
🧭 Where exactly do the prints end up?
🗂️ Are those folders really secure?

Want to get this right, but don’t know where to start?

We get that.
What printer settings are smart?
How do you link this to Teams or SharePoint?
How do you prevent AVG compliance from accidentally killing the printer?
