OpenAI Provides ChatGPT Now Unlimited Web Access

Those who pay for OpenAI’s chatbot can now use Bing to provide OpenAI ChatGPT with the latest information. In addition, the integration of DALL-E 3 is currently being tested in beta.

OpenAI’s Chatbot and New Access to the Web

OpenAI’s famous chatbot now has free rein to search the Internet. The company announced Tuesday that the “Browse with Bing” feature is now available to ChatGPT users who pay for the Plus or Enterprise editions. This allows ChatGPT to access current information instead of being limited to the training dates that were available until September 2021.

There are already several plugins and applications that give ChatGPT access to the Internet, but this official release shows that the company believes the ethical limits of its AI can handle full access to both the best and worst of the Internet. The new feature is available on both the web version and mobile devices for customers paying $20 per month.

ChatGPT and its cross-pollination with Microsoft’s Bing

ChatGPT is already integrated into Microsoft’s Bing browser, indicating close cooperation. In this context, OpenAI’s new AI image generator, DALL-E 3, already interfaces with ChatGPT. The company reported Monday that it would integrate DALL-E 3 into ChatGPT, allowing users to create deepfakes and funny art to their hearts’ content through the chatbot interface.

Microsoft, OpenAI’s major collaboration partner, announced in May at its annual Microsoft Build conference that this feature would enter the beta phase. Several months later, OpenAI put the “Browse with Bing” feature on pause because it was showing unwanted content. In reality, the AI company may have removed the feature after discovering that users were bypassing the pay wall.

It wasn’t until September that “Browse with Bing” was relaunched. That update also introduced new speech-to-text capabilities that allowed paying users to communicate directly with the chatbot. ChatGPT can now generate answers with an AI-synthesized voice and interpret images to answer questions based on the information in a picture.

Challenges and Future Developments.

Although ChatGPT is able to recognize the parts of a bicycle, it has difficulty interpreting human interactions. A discussion on the r/ChatGPT subreddit asked the chatbot to identify the social dynamics of two photos from a course on sexual harassment. An unwanted hand on a woman’s shoulder was interpreted as a man offering “comfort or reassurance.”

With competition lurking on all sides, OpenAI continues to add new features at a breakneck pace. In November, the company reportedly plans to add more memory storage and visibility capabilities to ChatGPT’s enterprise developer model. These updates could be announced during the company’s developer conference on Nov. 6.
