No more Blue Screen: this changes
After 40 years, Microsoft says goodbye to one of the most famous and infamous screens in the IT world: the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Instead of the familiar blue screen, a black screen will appear when your PC crashes.
🎨 No blue color
😟 No sad faces
🔲 No QR code
Just a sleek black screen with a simple message. But what does this really mean for you, as an SME?
What will change in practice?
The blue screens always caused one thing: panic. Employees shouting “Help! My screen is blue!” are no exception. With the new black variant, things get a little less dramatic. What to expect:
✅ Less stress on employees
✅ Clearer if and what is going wrong
❌ Less recognition in the event of a hang-up
❌ The nostalgia is gone (for those who cared)
Still, the main problem remains: jammed PCs cost time, money and frustration. And that black screen does little to change that.
Why you should care about this as an SME
Whether the screen is blue, black or purple – if your employees regularly get crash notifications, there is work to be done. Often the causes don’t even lie with the user, but with outdated systems, unclear permissions structures or lack of maintenance.
At ALTA-ICT, we help companies work smarter and more securely. That means:
🔹 Less chance of crashes
🔹 Faster recovery procedures
🔹 An IT environment you don’t have to think about all the time
What do others think?
We asked our LinkedIn followers what they think of this change. The results:
📊 48% say, “Too bad, old familiar is gone.”
📊 47% say, “Doesn’t matter to me.”
📊 Only 5% think, “Great, less stress!”
So yes … the nostalgia runs deep. But in the end, we all just want it to work.
