Microsoft Teams is set to get an improved file sharing experience
What you need to know
- Microsoft Teams will soon have an improved file sharing experience.
- An upcoming feature will allow you to create a link for any file and easily set permissions.
- The feature could be rolling out as early as this month.
File sharing via Microsoft Teams is now faster and easier to manage. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap there’s a new file sharing experience on the go. The experience should “streamline sharing with Microsoft Teams” and make it easier to set permissions on shared files.
Microsoft describes the new experience on its roadmap:
Streamline sharing with Microsoft Teams. You can now create a shareable link for any file stored in Teams and set the appropriate permissions directly. In addition, you can also set permissions on files stored in SharePoint or OneDrive while composing a private chat or starting a channel conversation.
The feature is currently slated to roll out sometime this month, but the Microsoft 365 roadmap is intended to generally outline plans, not set firm dates for features to appear. That means we might not really see the feature this month.
Once it’s out, it’s easier to create a link for a file and set permissions to share that file. The option to set permissions on SharePoint and OneDrive files during a private chat or within a channel should also come in handy.
