I thought OneDrive was secure….

Until an employee accidentally drags everything into his private account

When everything is going well, you don’t hear anyone. But as soon as an employee shares files via his private OneDrive or WeTransfer, or “quickly” sends something to his Gmail … then the trouble begins.

And no – they usually do so not out of unwillingness, but out of convenience. Or ignorance. After all, OneDrive seems secure. But personal and business quickly blend together, especially on a work device.

New from Microsoft: warning on personal OneDrive connection

Starting this month, users will be notified when they want to link their personal OneDrive on a business device. A step in the right direction. But: only a notification. Not a block.

And so: if IT doesn’t shield anything here….

???? private and business files can mix
???? there is no logging or monitoring of what is shared
???? files can just leave the company without you noticing it

So what?

Files on the street. Customer data in the wrong cloud. Or an employee unknowingly creating risk – via tools you don’t monitor.

In our LinkedIn poll, we saw that 13% of respondents had never thought about this. And 8% had even fussed about it regularly.

What’s the situation with you guys?

  • Is the use of private cloud on work devices blocked?

  • Or do you rely on “common sense”?

???? What if you want to arrange it structurally, safely and without fuss?
