Getting Ready for Microsoft 365 Copilot: Key Steps

Microsoft Copilot is transforming the way we work with Microsoft 365 applications. Here is a guide to best prepare your organization for this innovation:

  1. Requirements for Copilot Use:
    • Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise: Seamless integration with Copilot requires implementation of these apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
    • Version and Update Channel: Users must be on the Current Channel to access Copilot. As of December 2023, the Monthly Enterprise Channel is also required.
  2. Privacy Settings and Organizational Branding:
    • If necessary, review and adjust the privacy settings of Microsoft 365 enterprise apps.
    • Use your company branding in PowerPoint presentations with Copilot for a personalized experience.
  3. Microsoft Purview Information Security:
    • Be careful when sharing sensitive information. Use labels and security measures for data protection in Microsoft Purview.
  4. Microsoft Entra ID and OneDrive:
    • Make sure your users have Microsoft Entra-based accounts.
    • Some Copilot features require a OneDrive account.
  5. Outlook and Teams Integration:
    • Copilot is compatible with the new Outlook for Windows, currently in preview.
    • For use with Microsoft Teams, the desktop client is required.
  6. Microsoft Loop and Semantic Index for Copilot:
    • Loop must be enabled to use Copilot with Microsoft Loop.
    • The Semantic Index for Copilot enables advanced interactions with enterprise data via Microsoft Graph, while respecting security and policy.
