73% of Dutch companies start 2026 without IT roadmap
73% of Dutch companies start 2026 without a concrete IT roadmap.
That’s no small detail. It is a strategic risk.
Many organizations are looking back on 2025 as a year of acceleration. More cloud. More AI. More digital tools. At the same time, security and compliance requirements increased significantly.
Without a coherent plan, that acceleration remains superficial. Systems grow disconnected from each other. Risks pile up. IT does not support the business, but slows it down.
2026 calls for direction. Not more tools, but better choices.
Looking back to 2025: what do we see at Dutch organizations?
2025 showed a clear pattern. Investment went up, but structure lagged.
Key IT insights from 2025:
Cloud usage grew 41%
Many companies migrated to Microsoft 365, Azure or hybrid environments. Yet 1 in 3 organizations does not have an established backup and recovery policy. That significantly increases the impact of failures and ransomware.
AI adoption was faster than policy
AI tools were widely deployed for marketing, support and analytics. However, 62% of organizations did not apply data governance. No agreements on data use, no privacy controls and no understanding of risks.
Cyber incidents in SMEs doubled
According to figures from the Digital Trust Center, the number of incidents in SMEs increased sharply from 2024. Phishing, ransomware and abuse of accounts are the main causes.
Legislation became stricter and more concrete
The Cybersecurity Act, based on NIS2, and the European AI Act require preparation. Not only technically, but also organizationally and administratively.
Why an IT roadmap is indispensable in 2026
IT is no longer a separate entity. It touches every department. Every decision.
Without a roadmap, you see this happening:
IT does not align with business goals
Investments pay too little because they are not linked to growth, efficiency or continuity.
Compliance is handled ad hoc
AVG, NIS2 and industry rules require demonstrable measures. Loose actions are not enough.
Security remains reactive
Without a plan, action is taken only after an incident occurs. The damage is already done by then.
AI continues to experiment
Without policy, AI tools remain stand-alone solutions without scale, control or strategic value.
An IT roadmap brings coherence. Priority. Peace of mind.
Specifically, what does this mean for 2026?
2026 is all about maturing IT.
Key shifts:
IT and business grow together
IT choices are linked to concrete goals such as cost control, scalability and customer reliability.
Compliance becomes structural
Not just comply, but be demonstrably in control. Think policies, logging, monitoring and audits.
Security becomes strategic
Security is no longer a cost, but a prerequisite for continuity and trust.
AI requires frameworks
Clear agreements on data, privacy, responsibilities and ethics become necessary.
Reflection moment: use these days smartly
The last days of the year are ideal for reflection. Not operationally, but strategically.
Ask yourself and your team these questions:
- What worked well in 2025?
Which IT choices delivered demonstrable value? - Where did it get stuck?
What systems, processes or vendors created frustration or risk? - What deserves focus in January?
Which topics should not be postponed again?
These answers form the basis for your IT roadmap 2026.
