Access in the cloud: how is it regulated?

We did a little poll on LinkedIn asking¹, “How well is access regulated at your place?“
The results were striking:

📊 67% say, “Access by function/need.”
📊 13%: “Basic roles, no overview.”
📊 10%: “Everyone sees (almost) everything.”
📊 10%: “No idea, honestly.”

That sounds like it is reasonably well organized at most companies. But we know from practical experience:
👉 Even if access is technically well organized, there is often a lack of overview
👉 Nobody keeps a structural eye on who has access to what
👉 In the event of staff changes or role changes, old access simply continues to exist
