What is really important in an IT vendor?
As an IT partner, we hear it often:
“It just has to work.”
And when things go wrong, you want to get someone on the line quickly to really help you.
At ALTA-ICT, we are ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and NEN 7510 certified. This means that we have to periodically assess our suppliers. Not to control them, but to ensure continuity and security towards our customers. ????????
That led us to a question:
What do other companies actually consider important when evaluating IT vendors?
What does our poll show?
We put the question to our LinkedIn followers. These are the results of 19 votes¹:
✅ Reachability & support – 32%
✅ Compliance & security (ISO/NEN/AVG) – 32%
✅ Quality of service – 21%
✅ Innovation power – 16%
❌ Price & payment terms – 0%
Striking? The latter especially.
Price comes last
At a time when everything is getting more expensive, you would expect price to be the deciding factor. Yet this mini-survey shows something different:
✔️ Getting help quickly
✔️ Complying with laws and regulations
✔️ And being able to rely on consistent service
… are more important than the lowest price.
Recognizable? Many SMEs have experienced how frustrating it is when:

Your supplier is not picking up

You don’t have a clear point of contact

Whether you suddenly discover during an audit that your vendor is not taking the AVG seriously
As an SME, what can you do with this?
Choosing an IT vendor is more than comparing quotes. Ask yourself:

Are they accessible if things go wrong?

Do they help you stay compliant with ISO/NIS2/AVG?

Do they think with you instead of just delivering?
???? ISO or NEN certification helps you actually capture that reliability – but more importantly, it forces suppliers (and ourselves!) to continuously improve.
