Microsoft 365 Copilot Updates (October)

The October updates to Microsoft 365 Copilot bring innovative tools to further automate business processes and make them more efficient. This month, Copilot agents in BizChat take center stage, making your job easier by simplifying recurring tasks and workflows. What are Copilot agents?

Copilot agents are smart AI assistants designed specifically to automate business processes. They can handle simple tasks, such as answering questions, as well as more complex tasks, such as executing workflows independently.

Examples of Copilot agents:

  • FAQ Management: Consistently answer frequently asked customer questions.
  • Meeting Planner: Automatically manage meeting requests and schedule meetings.
  • Customer Service Assistant: handle common customer inquiries without human intervention.

October Highlights & Sample Prompts:

📊 Create Professional Images for Documents

Copilot in Microsoft Business Chat helps you quickly and easily create images for your documents, reports and presentations. No design background required! Just give Copilot a simple instruction and choose from a variety of generated options.

Example Prompt:

  • “Create an image of a bar graph showing the growth in sales over the past five years. Use shades of blue and green and do not include text.”
  • “Create an image of a satisfied customer receiving a product, in a modern style and with light colors.”

📚 Refer to Long Content for Extended Analysis

Until recently, the amount of content Copilot could reference was limited. With this update, Copilot can now work with blocks of text up to 75,000 words, ideal for analyzing extensive documents and reports.

Example Prompt:

  • “Create a summary of this 50-page report and present the main conclusions in bullet points.”
  • “Search this 60,000-word document for all relevant data on customer feedback and summarize the themes.”

📈 Analysis of Text Columns in Excel

Copilot can now analyze texts entered into columns in Excel, such as answers to open-ended questions in surveys or customer feedback. It recognizes key themes and presents them clearly, allowing you to quickly see trends and patterns.

Example Prompt:

  • “Summarize the key themes from the ‘Customer Feedback’ column in this Excel file.”
  • “Analyze responses to the open-ended question “What do you think of our service?” and list the most common opinions.”

📋 Creating Draft Tests and Quizzes in Forms

For teachers, Copilot in Forms now offers the ability to automatically generate quizzes and interactive questionnaires to save time and focus more on students.

Example Prompt:

  • “Create a concept quiz on the basics of biology for 14-year-old students, with 10 multiple-choice questions.”
  • “Generate a fun icebreaker quiz with questions like ‘What is your favorite season and why?’ and ‘Name a fact about yourself that no one knows.'”
