BIMI Explanation: Strengthen Your Email Brand!
Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) is a technology that helps companies improve brand visibility and email security by displaying the company logo next to their emails. This can increase recognition and trust among recipients, resulting in better engagement.
Why BIMI?
With the increase in phishing and fraudulent emails, it is crucial to protect your brand identity and ensure the authenticity of your communications. BIMI ensures your emails stand out in the inbox, while making it harder for cybercriminals to impersonate your brand.
How does it work?
BIMI uses DNS records and works in conjunction with existing security protocols such as DMARC, SPF and DKIM. Here are the key steps for implementation:
- Step 1: Get Security in Order
You need valid SPF, DKIM and DMARC policies to ensure the authenticity of your emails. This ensures that your emails are not only secure, but also verified as legitimate. - Step 2: Create a logo in SVG format 🎨
The BIMI protocol requires a logo in a specific SVG format. This format ensures that the logo displays clearly and professionally, regardless of the screen size or email program used. - Step 3: Obtain a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) 📜
A VMC is a digital signature that shows that your logo has been verified to BIMI standards. This ensures that the logo is visible in emails and is issued by a recognized body. Alternatively, a CMC provides legal protection and ownership rights for your logo, but is not required for BIMI. - Step 4: Publish BIMI record
After you have completed all the above steps, publish your BIMI record in your domain’s DNS. This will allow the email service provider to associate your logo with verified emails.
Benefits of BIMI
- Brand visibility: Your company logo is displayed right next to the emails, which helps capture the recipient’s attention and paint a professional picture.
- Better Trustworthiness: Attaching a verified logo to your emails increases your brand’s credibility.
- Protection Against Phishing: By relying on BIMI, recipients can more easily distinguish legitimate emails from fraudulent messages.
Difference between VMC and CMC 🌟 A VMC (Verified Mark Certificate) is used in conjunction with BIMI to display a verified company logo next to emails. It revolves around visual brand recognition in emails and requires a verified DMARC policy. A CMC (Certified Mark Certificate) focuses more on the legal protection of a brand logo. It provides certification to establish the authenticity and ownership rights of a logo and protect it from infringement. In short, a VMC focuses on e-mail authenticity and visibility, while a CMC ensures the legal protection of the brand logo.
Is BIMI the Right Choice for Your Organization?
If you value brand identity and email security, BIMI can be an excellent addition. Not only does it strengthen your brand’s visual presence, but it also makes your emails more trustworthy to your customers. 💡 Take the time to consider how to implement BIMI into your email strategy. By investing in this technology, you will build trust and make your brand look professional at all times! 🚀
