A new call layout for Microsoft Teams is now available

  • Microsoft is updating Teams with a hip new call layout in May 2021.
  • One user tweeted about the new, simplified Calls format he discovered in his Teams app.
  • The new Calls format has a new user interface that brings together call history, contacts, and voicemail.
  • The big M will also add interactive webinars and Power Live support to Teams in May.

Microsoft has been busy with MS Teams in recent months. At the beginning of May 2021, the big M introduced a new casting feature for Teams. Now Microsoft is implementing a new call layout for Teams.

Users discover teams’ new call format

The Twitter user Mr. Bolem was one of the first Teams users to notice a new call layout in the app. He tweeted about the changes on his Twitter page as follows:

The highly anticipated #MicrosoftTeams call layout is here! So much simpler, everything you need without jumping to different tabs. Forwarding options set from the same panel, no more clicking multiple times to make the Calls visible option hidden in the settings. Worth the wait!

Other Teams users were somewhat confused about the layout changes. A user posted on microsoft’s forum about a strange format for calls.

That user wondered how to restore the original layout. An independent adviser at the forum replied:

Microsoft released new calling capabilities for Microsoft Teams updates in May 2021. This feature will be fully rolled out to all regions and tenant users by the end of May 2021 – as long as Microsoft reaches the deadline.

The format of the calls changes

So don’t worry if you’re one of those Teams users who are a little confused by call format changes. The change in call format, designed to streamline and simplify calling, was on Microsoft’s roadmap.

However, the big M has not yet made an official announcement on the new layout update.

The new Calls layout seemingly offers what Teams users are crying out for. It streamlines calling by displaying call history, contacts, and voicemail together.

Users no longer need to switch between alternate tabs to find certain options.

However, a new Calls layout isn’t the only thing Microsoft introduces to the app. The big M will also roll out PowerPoint Live and webinar support for Teams in May.

Such features allow users to host webinars with up to 1,000 attendees and use PowerPoint slides within Teams.

So Microsoft Teams is getting better and better! The increase in team user base over the past year, partly due to the global pandemic, has undoubtedly prompted Microsoft to give that app a little more attention than usual.
