🚨 Microsoft discontinues “Save emails to OneNote”
Microsoft continues to continuously tinker with the user experience within Microsoft 365, and this time that means the end of a familiar feature: “Save emails to OneNote”¹. As of March 2025, it will no longer be possible to send emails to me@onenote.com.
However, this does not mean that you can no longer save emails in OneNote. Microsoft has a new alternative ready: the “Send to OneNote” option in Outlook². But why this change? And how do you make sure you keep using this functionality without problems? We explain!
✅ What exactly is changing?
The way you save emails in OneNote changes:
🔹 Old email forwarding feature ends → You can no longer send emails to me@onenote.com.
🔹 Replacement: “Send to OneNote” → Instead, you can send emails directly to OneNote using the “Send to OneNote” option in Outlook. This can be found in the Apps icon in Outlook’s toolbar.
This means you may have to adjust your workflow a bit, but fortunately the core functionality remains.
💡 Why is Microsoft discontinuing this feature?
Microsoft does not always provide a detailed explanation of why features disappear, but from past experience, there are usually a few key reasons:
⚡ Low usage → The old method via me@onenote.com was actively used by too few users.
⚡ More efficient alternative → The new “Send to OneNote” feature provides a faster and more direct way to send emails to OneNote.
⚡ Better integrated interface → The new method fits better with the modern Microsoft 365 interface and streamlines the user experience.
Moving the feature to Outlook keeps the process seamless within the same platform and eliminates the need to remember or manually enter email addresses.
🚀 OneNote continues to evolve: new updates
Although the “Save emails to OneNote” feature is disappearing, OneNote continues to evolve. Microsoft has recently made several important updates:
🧠 Copilot integration → Microsoft Copilot is now available in OneNote, allowing you to create summaries, generate notes faster and get AI assistance for your notes.
⚙️ Option to disable Copilot → Since February, it has been possible to disable Copilot in OneNote for users who do not need it.
These innovations show that Microsoft is still actively supporting and continuing to improve OneNote, despite some older features disappearing.
🔄 How do you switch to “Send to OneNote”?
Are you used to saving emails via me@onenote.com? If so, it is important to get used to the new way of working now:
🔹 This is how you use the “Send to OneNote” feature in Outlook:
1️⃣ Open Outlook and select the email you want to save.
2️⃣ Click on the Apps icon in the toolbar (at the top of your screen).
3️⃣ Select “Send to OneNote.”
4️⃣ Select the OneNote section or notebook where you want to save the email.
5️⃣ Done! Your email now appears neatly in your OneNote, just like before.
This method is not only intuitive, but also allows you to access your stored information faster.
👉 What does this mean to you?
📌 Were you using the old feature? Then it makes sense to switch to “Send to OneNote” now to continue working without interruption.
📌 Never used it before? This is a good time to discover this handy feature and be more efficient with your notes and emails!
