🎣 Do you recognize this phishing email yet?
Sounds harmless, right? But before you click on that link, read on.
More and more Gmail users are getting a fake email saying their Google Drive is full. They supposedly get an extra 50 GB for $2.99 a year. Sounds like a bargain…
😬 But it is pure fraud.
Once you click on the link, you give criminals access to your data. And that can cause considerable damage, especially if you use your business accounts.
💌 What do you or your colleagues see pop up in the inbox most often?
Our poll on LinkedIn (thanks for voting!) shows¹:
✅ 64% see phishing emails most often
✅ 20% get fake emails from ‘Microsoft’ or ‘Google‘
✅ 8% see a lot of spam with invoices or dunning notices
✅ 8% admit to just clicking most of the time 🙈
This shows: phishing is alive and active, especially targeting SMEs. Because if you have no idea what you are clicking on, you are unknowingly giving access to your accounts or even your company data.
🎯 Why do criminals target small businesses?
👉 Large companies often have strict security measures.
👉 Small businesses think “this won’t happen to us” and often have less control.
👉 People are more likely to click if the message seems urgent (“your mailbox is full!” or “invoice not paid!”).
And so criminals can easily get in, take over accounts and steal or encrypt data.
💡 What can you do to recognize phishing?
🔹 Check the sender: Often it’s just not the real address.
🔹 Watch out for links: Hover your mouse over the link to see where it really goes.
🔹 No rush: Criminals create haste (“immediate action needed”), but take your time.
🔹 Ask colleagues: In doubt? Ask someone else to take a look.
🔹 Use MFA: Enable Multi-Factor Authentication for added security.
